What I'm Watching: The Crown, Atlanta, Black Panther 2, and More
On eight TV shows, four movies, and a podcast episode.
LaKeith Stanfield, Atlanta, FX
Here’s what I watched this week, and what I thought about it.
The TV shows:
- The first season of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire just ended, and the finale was as decadent and funny and dark and sexy as the rest of the fantastic first season. This year, fall TV was presented as a battle between Middle-earth and Westeros, but the most delicious drama of all went down in 20th-century New Orleans.
- Atlanta also said farewell this week, for good. I watched the entire fourth season yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that the FX show – which is often a masterpiece – not only righted itself after an ultra-frustrating third season but also delivered some of its best stories during its final run. That Mr. Chocolate episode, whew.
- I’ve been covering HBO’s The White Lotus at /Film, and this past week I wrote about how I think the stories of Persephone and Testa di Moro may play into the season’s overarching mystery. Surprisingly, I actually think I like the Italy-set season of the satire more than the heavily acclaimed first season, and the episode set to air tonight is one of the most interesting and pivotal of the five screeners I’ve seen.
