Cheers To 2025: Cheaper Memberships, One Month Free, and A Quick Survey
Bob's Burgers, Fox

Hi all,

I’m lowering the cost of membership for this newsletter. It’s not a cyber week deal, although the timing lines up pretty well. This new price will be in place for the foreseeable future unless my schedule changes significantly.

From now on, you can subscribe to every post on Hey, What Are You Watching? for $4 a month (previously $6), and can subscribe annually for $40 a year (previously $60). Current monthly paid members should see the change on their next bill, but let me know if you don’t. I’m also currently offering a month-long free trial to the newsletter for anyone who hasn’t paid before, because I want to make the holiday season easier on everyone. I expect to post two to four more times this month, and I have a big pop culture year-in-review post (always my favorite) in the works.

This may sound like a fire sale, but it’s actually me being realistic about what I’ve been able to offer in 2024. In years past, the newsletter posted every Sunday on the dot, but this year, the cadence has drifted towards new posts every 2 (and very rarely, 3) weeks. This has been to accommodate my major life changes – immigrating to another country, going from living alone to living in a bustling, happy home, reviewing much less TV in the wake of the slow dissolution of my former anchor website, and focusing on treating some frustrating physical and mental health issues that went ignored for too long. Most of these things are wonderful, but they’ve meant that this newsletter – which is far and away one of my favorite project I’ve ever done – doesn’t always offer enough updates to warrant that higher subscription cost.

I don’t know what 2025 will look like, and I don’t think any of us do. I might keep going with the every-other-week format, or I might start posting weekly again and adding in extra essays – I have a folder full of ideas I’ve been itching to get into! Either way, the price will stay low for the year, and I hope you’ll join me. Very few things in life bring me more joy than talking about what we’ve been watching (or reading, or listening to).

Happy holidays!

Val

P.S. If you want to see more of any particular type of coverage in Hey, What Are You Watching? you can reply with the emoji or emojis that correspond with your interests! Copy and paste them in the comments on this post or on social media (or just spell it out if you prefer), and I’ll consider this an informal survey that may shape the year to come.
